I am a A1 qualified assessor and my background is in policing. Having retired from the police I have tried to continue with assessing but trying to convince employers that my skills can be related to other subjects is virtually impossible. I have had a little bit of work assessing taxi drivers but even though I have done this others will not take me on because I haven't been a taxi driver. Its the same with security, although I have a lot of the basic skills involved and have previously in the police assessed nearly the same units because i haven't been a security guard companies wont employ me.
Hello Gavin
Thanks for the call and compliment. I attached the image as a test but my machine at work will not display anything except text, so I never actually saw the effect. Credit must go to Microsoft, it's one of their sample pics!
I have been described as a teacher of "Engineering Academics", a phrase coined by a colleague to describe in one term what we do. I teach fundamental and applied mathematics, electrical and electronic principles and engineering system characteristics to engineering apprentices. in a form of "cradle-to-graduation" training. Seems to work.
Hi Gavin. I'd really like to contribute to FEnews on behalf of NUS.
Drop me an e-mail on: shane.chowen@nus.org.uk and we can talk more.
Thanks for getting in touch!

Hi Gavin - we do surveys, data analysis, mapping and consultancy for providers and national bodies such as LSC. Currently evaluating roll-out of Skills Accounts, for example. Basically, research and consultancy in the post-16 sector. Thanks for the welcome. Philip
Hi Gavin, I work with esg and its brands (stl, triangle, sencia and orient) providing group-wide communications consultancy. I also work with a number of FE colleges providing strategic stakeholder communications in support of accommodation renewal and mergers. Glad to hear you're working with Rosie. I'll keep you posted with news.
Thanks Gavin, that's great. We'll make sure we tweet it!

Hi Gavin, thanks for your welcome - I'm still exploring the site!
My background is in working for the Surrey Lifelong Learning Partnership. We're a not-for-profit organisation which helps promote learning for everyone in Surrey, provides an independent voice for learners and identifies gaps in learning provision in order to facilitate planning and action with partners, many of whom are FE colleges. Always looking for ways to network and keep abreast with changes in the sector so this site looks like it will be useful.
Hi, thanks for acting so quickly with our press release! Handling the PR for NCFE, I definitely think the site will be very useful for people in the FE community to start talking and share ideas. I'm really looking forward to seeing more people join!
Yes I'm Marketing and PR Manager at Newcastle-under-Lyme College - have never actually met Ruth but her name pops up everywhere! I think the site looks good- hope more people start joining then we should really see the benefit.
Hmm, wrote a comment but it got 'moderated'! I'm an ICT specialist - hope to see a few more of us soon.
looks like the beginning of a really good site.
