Students studying Level 2 Sport at Swindon College have recently been coaching Year 8 pupils at Lydiard Park Academy. The students are taking part in a teaching exercise where they plan, develop and subsequently deliver a lesson to a Key Stage 3 class.
Sam Bramfitt, Curriculum Area Manager for Sports at the College, said:
“I liaised with Christian Dobbs, the Assistant Principal and Head of Sport at the Academy, who agreed that it would be a great idea and recommended that the College students coach the pupils in football and netball.”
The Level 2 students planned their lessons with an aim to develop the skills of the pupils with a higher ability, with 50 minute sessions conducted at Lydiard Park Academy.
Christian Dobbs from the Academy said:
“We have been overseeing the lessons and are extremely impressed with the enthusiasm, level of detail and overall professionalism shown by the College students throughout each lesson.”
