Sussex Downs International College have been listed again as the joint second highest accredited centre in the UK by the EL (English Language) Gazette’s centres of excellence directory published this month.
Mark Allen, International Manager said: “The British Council come every four years to look at all aspects of our international language work. Sussex Downs College is at the very top of UK colleges in this table of excellence and joint second of all providers, which includes universities and private language schools.
“The British Council accreditation provides a quality kite mark that is known across the world and is vital for ensuring good recruitment. We have also retained our highly trusted status with the UK Border Agency (UKBA) which ensures we can continue to attract international students to the College for a range of courses.”
East Sussex derives considerable economic benefits from overseas students through rent paid to local host families and also through money spent in local shops, restaurants and other businesses. “When our international students complete their courses they leave the UK with a strong bond with East Sussex that often results in them returning years later to revisit teachers, host families and friends,” said Mark.
The international students at Sussex Downs College study on a range of courses including English Language, IELTS (international English language testing system) preparation, CELTA (certificate in teaching English to speakers of other languages), which also includes PTLLS (preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector) as well as academic and vocational programmes.
With over 200 international students and more than 19 different nationalities, studying in Lewes and Eastbourne, Sussex Downs offers a world-class education for international students.
