Study Group announces record A Level results

International educator triples the national average for A* grades

31 August 2011, Brighton - Study Group, the UK’s largest educator of international students, today announces record A Level results achieved by international students at its Bellerbys colleges.

The four colleges in London, Oxford, Brighton and Cambridge more than doubled the national average of A*’s and A’s with 60% of pupils achieving the two highest grades.

This year’s unprecedented academic success has resulted in more of Study Group’s international students attending top ten UK universities than ever before, with Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesian and Czech students all commencing degrees at Oxford and Cambridge in September, and over half of this year’s total cohort commencing degrees at top ten UK universities (according to the Sunday Times University Guide 2011).

James Pitman, Study Group Managing Director, HE, UK and Europe, comments: “This year’s Bellerbys’ students have done exceptionally well and subsequently been rewarded with places at some of the world’s most esteemed universities.

“The UK continues to be regarded as a first class academic destination, even though our global appeal has been dampened recently by the continuous international student visa revisions and associated issues. Students from all over the world are still keen to come to the UK to gain A Levels or complete pathway courses before progressing to UK universities, and we need to make sure we remain open for business as these individuals will surely be the future of global trade and industry.”

Yi Nan from Shanghai, China, was one of this year’s outstanding students, achieving four A* grades in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics. Yi Nan, or Rex as he likes to be known, took a six-term A Level programme at Bellerbys Brighton. He is due to commence an engineering degree at Brasenose College, Oxford University.

Rex’s mathematics teacher says: "Rex is a gifted student who has excellent analytical skills and a profound interest in the subject. His problem solving skills are first rate and he shows initiative in developing ideas and extending them into the topics we have been studying.  He has a mature and practical approach to his studies and good organisational skills."

More than 200 international students took A Levels at Bellerbys this year.
