Offstage Choices° - careers in theatre and live music

Fifteen venues across the country open their doors to 13 & 14 year olds,
15th October until 2nd December 09, for The National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural Skills' first interactive Offstage Choices° careers events.

These events offer young people aged 13+ a taste of the job roles available behind the scenes and offstage in technical theatre and live music events.

Pupils from local schools will meet and experience the work of a number of professionals including lighting & sound technicians, marketing & stage managers and designers, in venues from the New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth, up to the SAGE in Gateshead. Behind the scenes staff will share the tricks of their trade and experiences, working out of the 'spotlight.'
Offstage is produced by the National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural Skills (NSA). A network of industry specialists in theatre, opera, live music events, festivals, Further Education Colleges and training providers working together to develop and improve skills within the industry.
Robert West, Education & Curriculum Manager of the NSA, said:
"This nationwide series of events will enable young people to discover career routes, enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour, and meet industry professionals. By linking these venues and potential employers with our Further Education Colleges young people will also find out about training and support to get into jobs and careers in their area."

Note to Editors
The National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural Skills (NSA) was established in 2008 with the initial aim of putting employers within the 'offstage' industries of technical theatre and live music event production in control of their training needs; what trainees learn, how they learn and where.
The National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural Skills (NSA) operates as an industry-led membership organisation, developing the delivery of industry approved standards, training and related skills through its network of creative and cultural employers and education and training providers.
Our mission is to establish an industry-led National Skills Academy, initially focussing on Live Music and technical theatre.
Our vision is of an internationally acclaimed technical theatre and live music sector supporting the best stages in the world.
At the heart of the NSA's ambition are our core values:
Industry led – We listen to our employers’ needs and work to ensure training leads to real skills for real jobs;
Partnership - We are a membership organisation working together to improve training and skills development for our industry;
Quality – We deliver training, information, advice and guidance, through our membership - within a recognized, industry-endorsed, framework;
Diversity – We develop new models for learning, partnerships and access into the sector, such as Creative Apprenticeships, to improve opportunities for all and increase the diversity of the workforce.
The National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural Skills is a wholly owned subsidiary of Creative & Cultural Industries plc, the sector skills council for the creative and cultural industries.
Paul Latham is chair of the National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural Skills and Chief Operating Officer of Live Nation Europe.
In each region the NSA team will be hosting a reception for their Membership and special invited guests.
