Natalie follows in boss’s footsteps

22 year old, Hairdressing student, Natalie Hough, from Old Hall, is celebrating after following her dream and securing a Hairdressing Apprenticeship with hairdressing salon, Rebecca Christina, in Bewsey, Warrington. A former Advanced Apprentice herself at Warrington Collegiate, salon owner, Rebecca Rotherham was keen to pass on her expertise and experience to a Natalie.

Natalie explains, “I’ve always wanted to be a hairdresser, but at 16 I chose a career in Public Services which I enjoyed but my first love was still hairdressing.  So I enrolled onto a full-time  course at the college. I chose Warrington Collegiate as it’s got a good reputation for hairdressing. Vicky Stafford, my tutor, encouraged me to apply for an apprenticeship and so I handed in my CV to Rebecca, hoping she’s take me on. “

Rebecca adds, “After completing my apprenticeship at Warrington Collegiate, I worked in a salon to gain experience, always with the ambition to open my own Salon. On 8th September 2012, I realised my dream. The first year has been incredibly successful and I was soon ready to expand.   Having decided to take on an apprentice I approached Vicky at Warrington Collegiate who’d also been my tutor and she recommended Natalie.   My own experience at the college was excellent so I knew that I would be able to recruit a really good student.”

Vicky Stafford, Assessor for Hairdressing, Warrington Collegiate, is absolutely delighted, saying, “It is wonderful to have a former apprentice opening her own business and growing her own workforce by taking on an apprentice. As Rebecca has been down the apprenticeship route herself she is well aware of our high quality training, teaching and learning. Apprenticeships are a great way to grow a small business and create new talent for the industry.”

Natalie has been with Rebecca Christina for 8 weeks, and already has her own models in on a Tuesday. Natalie says, “I really love it, hairdressing is my passion. The best thing about an apprenticeship is that you are always learning and improving. Rebecca is a wonderful manager and already I have ambitions to open my own salon one day.”

Rebecca adds, “Natalie will gain experience of all aspects of hairdressing at Rebecca Christina including colouring and cuts to the popular hair-ups for those special occasions and bridal hair. In the future I hope to expand the business even further and one day I’d like to go into teaching.”

Rebecca paid tribute to her Dad who has helped her set up her salon, and revealed that her link with Warrington Collegiate goes even further back. Rebecca explains, “My Dad is a joiner, and he also went to Warrington Colligate when it was known as Warrington Technical College – so it’s a real family affair.”
