Sussex Downs International College have been listed as the top further education college for English language teaching in the UK. The result has been published in the EL (English Language) Gazette and is based on a survey of British Council inspections.
Mark Allen, International Manager said: “The British Council come every four years to look at all aspects of our international language work. Sussex Downs College is at the very top of UK colleges in this table of excellence.
“The British Council accreditation provides a quality kitemark that is known across the world and is vital for ensuring good recruitment. We are therefore delighted by this result.”
The British Council said: “The British Council inspected and accredited Sussex Downs College in October 2010. The Accreditation Scheme assesses the standards of management, resources, premises, teaching and welfare and accredits organisations which meet the overall standard in each area inspected.”
Points of excellence were noted in aspects of general management and in premises, self-access facilities, academic management, teachers’ qualifications, teaching, pastoral care and the leisure programme.
East Sussex derives considerable economic benefits from overseas students. The international students at Sussex Downs College study on a range of courses including English Language, IELTS (international English language testing system) preparation, CELTA (certificate in teaching English to speakers of other languages), which also includes PTLLS (preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector) as well as academic and vocational programmes.
