Highest mark in the world for outstanding accountant

Katie Tullett, 22, from Seaford has recently learnt that in her June exams for the ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) she gained the joint highest mark worldwide for Tax paper F6.

This is even more fantastic when you consider that only 46% of the 28,000 entering the exam passed.

Katie has been studying with Sussex Downs College at its Newhaven campus. Starting in 2006 she studied the AAT NVQ level 2 qualifications before progressing onto levels 3 and 4. The AAT qualification provides an ideal opportunity for those working or hoping to work, in a range of roles in accounting and finance. In 2009 Katie started her professional qualification with ACCA which is the global body for professional accountants.

Katie has worked at Swindells & Gentry Chartered accountants in Seaford for the last four years. She said on hearing the news: "It has always been my ambition to become an accountant since my school days. The AAT qualification gave me the foundations for working in an accounting practice and it was a natural progression onto the ACCA qualification. The courses offered by Sussex Downs College have given me the flexibility to learn alongside working, which I feel is key to being successful in these qualifications."

Ian Jenkins, Partner at Swindells & Gentry said: “This is a truly remarkable feat and our congratulations go to Katie. From the first day Katie joined us it has been very clear that she was going to be a great accountant and this simply confirms that.”

Katie is a previous Seaford Head pupil who went to Swindells for work experience. Katie said: “I went to Swindells for work experience and was delighted when they offered me a position. They have really supported my training and I love being an accountant, I hope to complete my final examinations and be fully qualified in two years time.”
