Highbury College celebrates as student success makes it top GFE college in the South East of England

Highbury College Portsmouth has cause for celebration as student success rates make it the top performing general further education (GFE) college in the South East of England.

Furthermore, not only have its students out-performed those at its counterparts across the region but, according to the latest figures from the Data Service for 2008/09, their fantastic success rates have placed it in the top three per cent of GFE colleges in the country.

The figures also show that across all age groups Highbury’s success rates topped the tables for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in the areas of languages, literature and culture; preparation for life and work; information and communication technology and engineering and manufacturing technologies.

For 16-18 year olds, the College came top in five of the eleven subject areas it delivers including business, administration and law; engineering and manufacturing technologies and information and communication technology. For this age group it is also the overall top performing general further education college in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight at Levels 2 and 3, where student success is concerned.

Highbury's Principal and Chief Executive, Stella Mbubaegbu CBE, said: “Year upon year our students never fail to impress and this year is no exception.

“As a College, we are very proud of their successes and we will continue to support and encourage them in every way possible.

“The figures really speak for themselves in proving that at Highbury students can realise their ambitions.”

Students have been seeing the benefits of the multi-million pound redevelopment, completed last year, across the College’s main centres, giving them state-of-the-art training facilities in a wide range of vocational subjects and providing them with world class realistic learning environments to hone their skills.
