Jamie Hesling (19) from Pevensey, a previous Bishop Bell pupil, Antoine Coevoet (17) from Newhaven, a previous Tideway School pupil and Jade Govan (19), a previous Hailsham Community College pupil, achieved first place in the brickwork (senior), brickwork (new entrant) and painting and decorating (new entrant) categories respectively.

The three winners, along with dozens of other budding trainees were put through their paces in their chosen trade at the South East regional heat on 28 April 2011 at Sussex Downs College in Eastbourne.  The entrants were marked on essential skills such as following detailed instructions, producing accurate finished work, being economical with materials and working to strict timescales.

The South East regional heat is one of 15 regional heats taking place between March and May. The highest scoring students will then win a place at the UK final in September, which will take place at Leeds College of Building – where they will be in with a chance of winning the coveted title of Britain’s most talented construction trainee.

Steve Walter, Construction Coordinator and Kevin Diett, Curriculum Leader at the College were facilitators on the day. Kevin said: “It was a fantastic, if long day; I think all the students enjoyed the competition. I am particularly pleased with our gold medal winners. My thanks go to Chandlers and Brewers for their local support, which is much appreciated.”
