The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London’s Hair and Beauty department at Enfield visited University College Hospital (UCLH) in Bloomsbury last week (3 July) to present a cheque for £1036 to the Cancer Fund charity, which they had raised over a dedicated charity week, where all proceeds from bookings were donated in memory of former Principal Paul Head.
UCLH are a leading cancer specialist hospital in North London and donations to the Cancer Fund go towards projects to enhance patient and carer experiences as well as services and medical equipment. The £1036 donation will go specifically towards the hospitals’ Support and Information Centre’ which is dedicated to both patients and non-patients offering complimentary therapy ranging from yoga and creative arts to wig services and dietary advice.
Head of Fundraising at University College Hospital Cancer Fund, Nick Gilbert said: “We are delighted with the hard work and effort that the staff and students at Conel have put in to their charity week. The money that they have raised means that our Support and Information Centre can continue with the great work they do to provide care to those affected by cancer.”
The Hair and Beauty team at Enfield, hold a Charity Day every year and donate proceeds to a charity, chosen by students and staff. As well as regular clients, staff and learners encouraged friends, family and College staff to come along for a wide range of treatments which including all hair services, facials, pedicures, manicures and hot stone treatments. Raffle tickets were also sold for a chance to win several high end hair and beauty products.
Curriculum Manager, Maria Hadjinicolaou said: “Every year our staff and students put in an extraordinary amount of time and effort to raise money for a selected charity. The consensus this year was to raise funds for our former Principal Paul Head’s chosen charity the UCH Cancer Fu in his memory. It was a fantastic choice, as the work that they do and the care which they provide is second to none and we are now looking for new ways in which our Hairdressing and Beauty staff and students can do more to help this great cause.”
