Derby College is opening a new Food Hub at Broomfield Hall in Morley in October to help local people to learn how to grow their own produce as well as helping current local producers to sell their own produce.

The new facility will be officially open to the public from Saturday October 23 and then daily between 10am and 4pm with a café and shop serving and stocking locally produced food from chocolates and cakes to organic meat and vegetables. Visitors can also enjoy the spectacular gardens at the historic Broomfield Hall and visit the Plant Centre.

The Food Hub has been supported by £299,000 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Local Food scheme.
Head of Broomfield Hall Louise Curd said: “The Food Hub has various different aspects which share the common theme of encouraging and supporting local people of all ages and from a range of cultural backgrounds to grow and make their own produce.

“As well as the shop and café featuring locally-made and grown produce, we will be working closely with community growing schemes and setting up short training courses to inspire and upskill people to join this growing trend.
