A new look at engaging 16-24 year olds to take control of their own career.

It’s well known that the UK jobs market is as competitive as ever with the increase in University tuition fees and as many as 1 in 10 graduates out of work six months after graduating, it’s no surprise that 54% of school leavers would opt for an apprenticeship if one were available.


Generation Y is the fastest growing segment of today’s workforce meaning employers cannot ignore the needs, desires and attitudes of this generation. Their preferences and dislikes are often misunderstood with many employers branding them as “lazy, lacking in skills and with no commitment or loyalty.” In fact, by employing a Gen Y’er in an apprentice it can help businesses to develop a skilled, motivated and qualified workforce.

According to the National Apprenticeship Service “96% of employers that take on an apprentice report benefits to their business” with “72% of employers reporting improved productivity as the result of hiring an apprentice”. And now with the government extending the Apprenticeship Grant for Employers until the end of December 2014, this could be the perfect time to start thinking about how an apprentice could further your business.

The solution, Boss Kit, is specifically designed to empower young people aged 16-24 to find their own perfect apprenticeship by guiding them through a series of direct questions in order to create their own personal profile. It then allows them to access information about the apprenticeship that most suits their needs and a list of providers to choose from.  Jules adds that “we want to provide them (16-24 year olds) with an opportunity to empower themselves by taking control of their own job and their own future. By passing the information to the individual, it empowers them to take control of their own future and the stats clearly show that when an individual is empowered, they are more likely to sustain in their employment and remain engaged in their programme of study.”
