Local teenager wins place in final trials for the Olympics

A young Olympic hopeful beat the after effects of injury to pass the first stage of trials for the summer games.

Newham College student and decathlon athlete Jahmal Germain, was 6th out of 29 competitors and won an under 23s silver medal in the England Athletics trials in Bedford on 26 and 27 May.

Students turn talent and wire into gold for their annual showcase

Newham College students let their imaginations loose during a massive beauty and performance show last week.

Over 750 students, family, friends and tutors produced their annual showcase at East Ham Campus on Thursday evening, 23 May.

Students’ creations included head dresses made from wire and hair that captured sports such as tobogganing and cycling, landmarks like the London Eye, and costumes based on gold.
