Plans for Broomfield Hall Re-submitted

Derby College has re-submitted its masterplan to improve learning facilities for students at its Broomfield Hall land-based campus in Morley.

The plans are due to be considered by Erewash Borough Council in April which would create new and refurbished facilities for students on a wide range of courses.

The first stage of work, costing £2 million which is due to start this summer, subject to planning permission, includes:

Students are made up with competition victory

Two Coleg Gwent Crosskeys Campus students proved they are top of the class when they scooped top prizes at the national finals of the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) competition in Blackpool last week.

Equine Success

Eight Equine students at Derby College’s Broomfield Hall have come second in their first national inter-college competition.

The students travelled to Moulton College in Northampton where they took part in dressage, show jumping and knowledge quiz competitions – riding Moulton’s horses rather than their own.

Derby College Talent Goes on Show

Staff and students from across Derby College will show off their own particular talents for a special competition at The Roundhouse on Thursday April 1.

Derby College Has Got Talent has been organised by Level 3 BTEC Business students and the College’s Students’ Union. Auditions have been held at college sites in preparation for the finale.

Career Mark

Student Services at Derby College’s South East Derbyshire campuses have achieved the coveted Career Mark accreditation for the quality of careers education and guidance.

Moodle Success

An on-line climate change course developed by a Derby College lecturer has won first price in an international competition.

The course, which is on the College’s on-line learning platform Moodle, was the brainchild of business lecturer Edward Pickering-Symes is used at the College for tutorials and subjects such as geography, applied science, science in society, general studies and ICT.

Spelling for Haiti

Lexus students based at Derby College’s Roundhouse campus have raised £860 to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake by taking part in a sponsored spelling test.

Student Sara Tanue (17) said: “The images on television of Haiti moved us all and we decided to raise money to help them.”

There are more than 100 students on the one-year Lexus programme which covers English, maths and IT skills for young people from other countries.…
